Snow storm – How does it impact your work?

If you haven’t already noticed… we are in the middle of a major snow storm! Our teams have done a stellar job of clearing snow, making the entrances safe and ensuring that our services run smoothly. Our residents rely on us for their well-being and safety. Thank you for your ABOVE and BEYOND service to our residents!

Soup at Noon!
If you are here at work today (Feb. 6), please make sure you enjoy some of the complimentary soup that will be in every staff lunchroom at noon! Many of you had to brave crazy conditions to get to work – we want you to know how much we appreciate your dedication and effort! This is a warm way to say THANKS!

Double Shifts
Thank you, also, to those of you who have done double time with taking care of our residents. We are so proud that our service to these special people can carry on through any kind of inclement weather.

Thank you for going ABOVE and BEYOND!

How does the snow storm impact your work at Menno Place?

1. Stay at work until the next shift arrives to ensure sufficient staff.
Most crucial to our residents is that we have enough people to care for their needs. Stay on your shift until the replacements have arrived. This will ensure that we have enough staff to take care of our residents needs during this crazy weather.

2. Do double-time if we are short of staff.
You may need to do two shifts in a row. This is what it means to work in healthcare! We are the backbone of care for these precious residents. Thank you for your willingness to step up and to go ABOVE and BEYOND! Thank you to all who have stepped up in this way, already!

3. Do your very best to come in to work.
We need you at Menno Place! The residents need you! If you are booked to work, make every effort to come into work. Carpool, use public transit, walk if you are close. Thank you for making the effort and making service possible. This is what makes our team so amazing!

4. Stay in touch in real-time via @MennoplaceAlert

5. Be confident that all will be well for our residents. Let them know it’s all good.
Let families, friends and residents know that all is well for our residents as we face the challenges of the snow storm. We are clearing the parking lots and ensuring that all services continue to be provided without interruption.  We have tested the generators and they are ready if there is a power outage. Your words can relieve the anxiety that residents may be feeling at this time. Reassure them that all is well. We are prepared. Our staff are amazing!

Thank you for all you do to ensure that our residents are reassured, safe and comfortable during this first storm of the season.

Be safe in this snowfall!

Trudy Isaak – Health Care Assistant at Menno Hospital passed away Saturday, January 28th, 2017

Trudy Isaak is remembered as a hard-working and joyful Health Care Assistant at Menno Hospital. Trudy served the seniors at Menno Hospital with joy and compassion from April 27, 1992 until her health declined and she went on long-term disability in 2007.

Trudy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her failing health led to her passing on Saturday, January 28th, 2017.

Many co-workers found joy in working alongside of Trudy. She is remembered fondly as a trusted colleague and a friend.

A Celebration of Life for Trudy will take place on February 11th at 1pm at the Central Community Church in Chilliwack, BC.

Who is LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic? We think of ourselves as the “anti-gym.” At LIVE WELL, we focus on how you feel, not how you look. This isn’t the place to lose weight as fast as possible or to learn to be a competitive athlete. At LIVE WELL you will fit in, feel comfortable and find exercise fun, social and inspiring!

COST: $297 is your portion of the fee.  MennoPlace and LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic are covering the balance of your fee. (IMPORTANT: On your application form, you will notice that it states the fee is $597, please still check this box since you and your Employer/LIVE WELL are sharing the cost)

Applications close December 31st.

Once you register, contact Jeanette Lee, Jeanette.lee@mennoplace.ca and the Employer will cover the balance of your fee!

You do not need to be in good shape to start. This program is designed for beginners!

Who Are We Looking For?

I can attend exercise sessions at the clinic twice per week.

I am willing to leave fear and judgement at the door.

I am eager and ready to change my lifestyle LONG TERM, not just adapt my life for 12 weeks.

I want to have a fun, social and inspiring experience while being part of a community of like-minded women who support and encourage one another.

I am committed to the entire 12 weeks because I know the beginning is always the toughest.

I am willing to spend time being introspective and reflective on my current lifestyle because I value my health, even though I am not living in line with those values right now.

I am open to be coached. I am willing to start doing what I know I should be doing for my health.

I am open to finding the joy in the PROCESS and creating the healthy habits that will lead to success.

I accept that this is not about rapid weight loss or diets, this is about HEALTH and quality of life. Health comes in all shapes and sizes.

I am willing to celebrate myself and others!
