CORky, the SAFETY HERO thanks you!
Menno Place has completed our first COR audit with the COR auditor here for all five days last week.
What is the COR audit?
This is an audit of our Occupational Health and Safety Program. COR stands for Certificate of Recognition. This is granted through the British Columbia Municipal Safety Association for organizations that receive higher than 80%. This program rewards employers who have developed and implemented safety management systems against industry based standards.
COR is a level of safety in a workplace that reduces injuries and accidents – it reduces worker suffering and improves the workplace safety culture (Read More).
COR certificates are issued by WorkSafe BC for organizations that pass the COR audit.
What took place last week at Menno Place?
An auditor spent a week with us and looked at every aspect of the SAFETY of Menno Place – from safe work procedures to training to written instructions. He looked at how we deal with hazard identification and control, inspection of the premises and equipment as well as investigation of accidents. He left no stone un-turned! He spent 2 days reviewing documentation!
In addition, the auditor interviewed 40 of you to get a sense of your knowledge of safe work procedures here at Menno Place. THANK YOU to all who participated in the preparations for COR and in the interviews!
How did we do?
We did really well – especially for our first COR audit.
Here are some of the key SAFETY strengths at Menno Place:
- The auditor was very impressed with the interviewees – all who showed up on time and participated willingly.
- He was impressed with our electronic management of safety, including our use of Sharepoint, ipods and Worxhub.
- He was impressed with our emergency response plans and codes – as well as how we are actively we are practicing emergency response.
When will we know if we passed the audit?
The results of this first audit will be sent to us in the next few weeks.
