May 3 – 6, Menno Place will be having our annual COR Health & Safety Audit.
You may be asked to meet with the auditor. Let’s all be ready!
Strengthen your COR knowledge by reviewing these safety questions and answers:
RESPONSIBILITY
Q: WHAT ARE MY HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES AT WORK?
A:
- Protect my health and safety and the health and safety of others
- Follow established safe work procedures
- Use protective equipment, devices and clothing
- Don’t engage in horseplay
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment and acts
- Don’t work under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Work with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Cooperate with WorkSafeBC
Q: DO CONTRACTORS HAVE HEALTH AND SAFETY OBLIGATIONS?
A: Yes, they sign a health and safety contract before working on the Menno Place campus.
PPE & EQUIPMENT
Q: HAVE I BEEN TRAINED IN THE USE OF PPE?
A: Yes, there is training in orientation and ongoing training on Surge Learning.
Q: DO I KNOW WHAT TO DO IF I ENCOUNTER BROKEN OR DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT?
A: Yes. Use the tag-out process to have the equipment removed and repaired.
EDUCATION
Q: DOES THE EMPLOYER HAVE A FORMAL SAFETY ORIENTATION?
A: Yes, this happens for all new staff, all newly-transferred employees and all who are returning after a lengthy absence.
Q: WHERE DO I FIND SAFE WORK PROCEDURES?
A: They are available in each department and through SharePoint.
EMERGENCY
Q: DO I KNOW HOW TO CONTACT FIRST AID?
A: Yes. Through training in Orientation and signage on OHS bulletin boards.
Q: HAS TRAINING BEEN GIVEN TO EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE A LEAD IN AN EMERGENCY?
A: Yes. Leaders and team members have regular emergency training drills.
REPORTING
Q: IS THERE A SYSTEM FOR ME TO REPORT UNSAFE / UNHEALTHY CONDITIONS OR PRACTICES?
A: Yes. Report to supervisor or submit a WorxHub request.
Q: DO I KNOW HOW TO REPORT AN INCIDENT OR AN ACCIDENT?
A: Complete Near Miss or Incident report.
LEADERSHIP
Q: ARE MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS LEADING BY EXAMPLE?
Q: ARE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS COMMUNICATED TO WORKERS?
COVID-19
Q: DOES MENNO PLACE HAVE A COVID-19 EMERGENCY PLAN?
A: Yes.
