Jeanette Lee – Director of Human Resources
Jeanette has been at Menno Place for almost five years, and her experience and resourcefulness make her a dynamic part of our Executive Team!
Today, we get to know her just a little better with a short Q+A…
Q: What training did you receive that helps you in your job at Menno Place?
A: My formal human resources training began as a mature student. I went back to school once my children started school and obtained my Master’s Degree in Leadership and Management with an HR focus. At that time I also obtained my Certified Professional in Human Resources designation.
I began my career working in an academic setting working with students setting up their distance learning programs. I have always enjoyed helping people reach their goals, and when we moved to Alberta I secured an HR Management position working with a non-profit helping those with developmental disabilities. Here I gained valuable experience interviewing candidates, providing training and development opportunities, supporting safety initiatives and managing the benefits programs. Once we moved to BC I worked as an HR manager in manufacturing. In 2013 I secured the HR Director position at Menno Place.
Q: What are some small things that make your day better?
A: Every day is an adventure when working with people! I have an awesome team I work with at Menno Place, both in HR and on the Executive Team. The small things that make a big difference are starting my day with the Lord! My time with God gives me the direction and focus I need to face the challenges and opportunities my job brings. I always keep in mind that every person at Menno, whether staff, resident, student or volunteer, is special and brings value to our experience at Menno Place. It is truly a wonderful place to work.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
A: There are always two sides to a story. Take the time to listen and hear the other side.
Q: What is your favourite thing about working at Menno Place?
A: My favorite thing about working at Menno is supporting the leadership team when they face challenges and working out issues together. It is very rewarding to come up with solutions together, working as a team.
Q: Where is your dream vacation spot?
A: A European river cruise!
