Do you still need a FIT test for an N-95? Clinics next week – check out the times

N-95 FIT testing

Who needs to be FIT tested? All staff who work in a unit that could be declared on outbreak. This is for dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, chaplains, care staff – ALL staff who may be required to work on an outbreak unit.

When do we wear N-95’s? These masks will be made available when the Medical Health Officer requires them. This is most likely during an outbreak.

Can I wear an N-95 if I haven’t been FIT tested? No. You need to have the FIT test to ensure that the mask will effectively keep you safe.

What is an N-95 FIT test? A “fit test” tests the seal between the respirator’s facepiece and your face. It takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and should be performed at least annually. After passing a fit test with a respirator, you must use the exact same make, model, style, and size respirator on the job to ensure a proper fit.
