Re: Congratulations on a new role: Leonard Klassen as permanent Manager of Community Enrichment
I am pleased to announce that Leonard Klassen is the successful candidate for the Manager of Community Enrichment role at Menno Apartments, effective February 12, 2024. Leonard is a proven leader who has overseen the move-in process for more than 250 apartment suites at Menno Apartments since he began working here three years ago.
Leonard has been our Interim Manager, Independent and Support Living at the Apartments since early July 2023. Prior to this role, Leonard served as the Life Enrichment Coordinator for the Apartments, beginning his role in the middle of the COVID pandemic in January 2021.
Leonard served as a pastor prior to joining the Menno Place team. Most recently, he pastored at King Road Mennonite Brethren Church where he was responsible for administration, teaching, worship leading, preaching, team development and ministry staff oversight. It was in these roles that Leonard was affirmed as a caring and compassionate “shepherd” of the congregation. Leonard and his family are now enjoying attending and serving at The Life Centre, an inter-cultural church in Abbotsford where many people from many nations gather each Sunday.
Leonard has also worked as a sessional faculty member at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford where he taught a first-year college required course “Introduction to Biblical Interpretation”. With a Master’s in Church Ministries, a specialization in Theological Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Church Ministries, Leonard brings a critical thinking skill set to his work in the Apartments. He is also a man of authentic Christian faith – a follower of Jesus who inspires faith and hope in those he meets and serves.
Leonard’s contribution to the Resident and Family Centred Care Framework and the Aging in Place Framework have helped us to develop and live out the tagline, “If it matters to you, it matters to me” throughout the Apartments and around our campus of care.
Leonard is a hospitable, kind and fun individual. When not at work, Leonard is active as a volunteer in a local church congregation. He enjoys the outdoors, whether riding his motorcycle, camping (well, glamping at least), kayaking, or walking. He loves to read, take pictures, and challenge his mind. (Quintumble, anyone?) He is married to Bonita and they have two young adult sons.
Here are some thoughts about his continued work at Menno Place,
“I am so glad that I ended up at Menno just over 3 years ago. Where else can you find an administrative job that allows you to walk thousands of steps a day?! This place matters. I love serving our seniors and am inspired by their resiliency and graciousness. I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people, and I look forward to managing the life enrichment team into the future.”
