Bright Lights – You are making a difference!
Karen Baillie, CEO, recently received a wonderful appreciation letter from a family member whose mother passed away in Menno Home E2. This family member is the Professional Practice Leader (RN, MSN) in a hospital in Ontario. She is very familiar with person-centered and family-centered care. She said,
There are “bright lights” in most organizations – people who stand out because of the quality of their care. There may also be people who stand out for negative reasons. We want you to know that every staff member that we encountered during our vigil on East 2 was a bright light! We were there at all hours of the day and night, through shift changes and handovers. We saw and heard the way the staff interacted, not only with our mother but with other residents as well, many of whom have challenging needs. The team was unfailingly professional, kind, compassionate and positive, including the RNs, LPNs, care aides, housekeepers and the care coordinator. Their care extended to the needs of our whole family, demonstrating their commitment not only to patient-centered, but to family-centered care.
It is a privilege for the team on E2 to hear the words of a professional nurse express her appreciation in this way with acknowledgement for the care to the resident and the family.
We receive many thank-you cards and collect them all. Our teams are kind, compassionate and professional, with special attention to gentle care at the end-of-life. You also hear many words of appreciation from families and residents in your work. As these acknowledgements come in, please pass them along to your supervisor so that we can gather a library of appreciation – a true reflection of our care here at Menno Place. If you follow Menno Place on Instagram, you’ll notice that we are posting many of these cards of appreciation to share the care and professionalism of our teams with the community at large.
Thank you to all of our staff across the Menno Place campus who extend themselves in service with compassion, respect and professionalism. This letter is a reminder to us all that every interaction makes a difference in the lives of our residents and families.
As we reflect on this wonderful letter, we celebrate how very special the care is at Menno Place! Along with all of this, the family thanked us for providing spiritual care for the resident and the family member at the end of her life. What a privilege it is to serve our residents with compassionate Christian care.
The family member ends with these words for all of our staff,
May God bless each of you at Menno Place as you continue to reflect His love for the residents in your care.
