Yesterday, the US Centre for Disease Control announced that people who are vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks indoors or outdoors.

At Menno Place, we continue to get our direction through the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control; the Public Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry; and the Fraser Health Medical Health Officer. There is no change at this time to our directions for mask wearing.

GetVaccinated – Register for your 2nd Dose

Notification for second-dose booking has now moved to GET VACCINATED – registration is required

What’s Happening?
Second dose booking notifications were sent out on May 6, 2021 to anyone who is at least 13 weeks (91 days) out from their first does, has not had their second dose or does not have a second dose appointment booked already.
The system notifcations are sent after 13 weeks in order to ensure you are able to book your appointment at the 16 week due date.
Anyone who has received their first dose and has NOT yet been contacted to book their second dose, should register on the Get Vaccinated system as soon as possible.
Please register right away at www.GetVaccinated.gov.bc.ca and you will be notified via text or email when it is time to book your 2nd dose.
If you are past 13 weeks from your first dose and have not yet received a notification to book, please call the provincial call centre at 1-833-838-2323

MAY 8, 2021 – MENNO HOME W1 – OFF ISOLATION/ENHANCED MONITORING

COVID-19 UPDATE – MAY 8, W1 HOME

W1 Home finished the course of enhanced monitoring on May 7th in the morning as per previous COVID-19 exposure. In the morning of May 7th, a concern regarding the COVID-19 exposure on W2 put the W1 unit back on isolation precautions. This concern was evaluated by the Public Health Officer and deemed no-risk. W1 was taken off enhanced monitoring in the late afternoon on May 7th.
Social visits resume!

MAY 8, 2021 – MENNO HOME W2 – Covid Positive -T = 1 staff

COVID UPDATE – May 8, 2021 – Home W2

NEW COVID POSITIVE CASES  = 0

TOTAL COVID POSITIVE CASES = 1 (0 resident/ 1 staff)

We are delighted to report that most of the W2 Home residents were taken off isolation yesterday evening. Some residents were identified as being at risk and remain on isolation. Public Health and our Infection Control Lead nurse are working long hours to continue the communication and to put the appropriate measures in place to minimize risk of COVID transmission.
There will be no social visits, but essential visitors can return. Primary contacts of residents who remain on isolation have been contacted.

MAY 7, 2021 – MENNO HOME W2 – *NEW* Covid Positive Staff -Total = 1 staff

COVID UPDATE – May 7, 2021 – Home W2

NOTE – If you worked in Menno Home W2 between May 2nd (starting with the 3pm – 11pm shift) to May 5th  (7am forward), you need to be swabbed for COVID immediately.

NEW COVID POSITIVE CASES  = 1 staff

TOTAL COVID POSITIVE CASES = 1 (0 resident/ 1 staff)

Point Prevalence COVID testing will take place today for staff and residents.

Residents continue on enhanced monitoring precautions:

  • Pause all social visits
  • Residents to stay in their rooms
  • Staff to use separate entrance

The unit is now on isolation and we are awaiting instruction from the Public Health officer.

W1 Home – We are pleased to anticipate that W1 Home will be OFF enhanced monitoring the MORNING of May 7th! If you are hoping to have a visit with your loved one, please go to www.MennoPlaceLife.com to book your visit.

There are no changes to report to the other units that are on enhanced monitoring.

RAPID COVID-19 TESTING – Menno Place is part of a pilot project with Fraser Health that is training and providing rapid COVID tests to staff and visitors. Sharon Simpson has created a video of her first rapid COVID test.

If you have NOT been vaccinated and are coming to Menno Place as a social visitor, please ask for a rapid test (self-test or have a Visitation Host do the test) so you KNOW you are safe when you enter the Menno Place buildings.

Thank you for your continued vigilance in providing safety through your careful following of infection control protocols. Here are some of the changes that are taking place that impact you and your work at Menno Place:

  1. OUTSIDE FOOD: You may now bring outside food into Menno Place. Containers / coffee cups must be wiped down to be sanitized. Food, hot drinks and water bottles are not allowed on the units in the resident space or nursing stations. They are only permitted in the lunch room / staff room.
  2. RAPID TESTS: Rapid tests are available at the entrances and kitchens in all areas of the the workplace. Please learn how to give yourself a rapid test or have another person test you. Here is a video that you can follow on how to do your own rapid testing. Below is a video that gives you instruction on how to use the rapid test.
  3. VACCINATION: How do you get your vaccination? CLICK HERE TO BOOK – If you are having difficulty getting your vaccination AND you’ve called the registration number – 1.833.838.2323, please call Pearl Nucich 604.851.1340 for assistance.
