Menno Place has been confirmed as a participant organization in a pilot study for the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). Together with the By Health, For Health Collaborative and HealthCareCAN, Menno Place is committed to broadening the awareness and importance of workplace psychological health and safety within the healthcare sector across Canada.
Our staff will voluntarily be participating in an anonymous online survey between April 11 and April 25th. This brief, confidential online survey will ask healthcare staff to provide their perspective on the psychosocial risk factors within their workplace.
What is involved in the online survey?
- Takes 10 – 15 minutes to complete.
- All staff are encouraged to participate – your voice matters!
- Your feedback in this area is critical. We recognize that there are psychological health and safety risks within the long-term / senior care sector. We want to hear from you about this!
- Participation is voluntary. All information in the survey is confidential. No personal information will be gathered. Analysis of the survey will be summarized with no identifying information included.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this a research study?
A: This project is a quality improvement or quality assurance project that will be used to benefit our workplace and workforce. Such activities are not defined as research and therefore do not require the same type of review and approval as research studies.
Q: What kind of information will be collected?
A: The survey items ask you about your perceptions of various factors that impact the psychological safety of the workplace. The questions are based on the
recognition that you are an expert on what it is like to do your job in your work environment. The questions are not about your physical health or mental illness and no personal information is gathered.
Q: How are privacy and confidentiality ensured?
A: In order to ensure confidentiality and privacy, Vancouver Psych Health and Safety Consulting will collect and analyze the survey results. Your answers
are anonymous and no one from our organization will be able to see or access individual responses. Only aggregate results will be reported to our organization. If fewer than ten people in a particular group respond, this group will not be analyzed or reported.
Q: How secure is the data?
A: All survey response data will be stored during this project on an independent, highly secure and FIPPA compliant Canadian server. Data is stored in a de-identified format so that no one will have access to identifiable information.
Q: Is completion of the survey voluntary?
A: Yes, completion of the survey is completely voluntary. A high level of completion by all staff will provide us with more accurate information about the
psychological health and safety of our workplace.
Q: How will completion of this survey help me and my healthcare colleagues?
A: This information will be helpful in two ways. The results for our organization will let us know about areas of strength or concern that influence the psychological health and safety of our workplace. The information from all the organizations that are participating in the project will be used to create a database and improve the survey so that it is helpful for all staff in Canadian healthcare organizations.
Q: Can the online survey be completed on any device?
A: Yes, you will receive a link to the survey that can be accessed on a computer, tablet or smart phone. Please note that you will be asked to complete
all the questions. Also, you will not be able to stop and save your responses and return later, so please allow sufficient time to give this your full attention.
Q: Will the results of the survey be shared with staff?
A: Yes, once the survey is closed and the results analyzed, we will be receiving a summary report from the consultants (PH+S) – Psychological Health and Safety Consulting. This aggregate report will describe our results on fifteen factors that impact psychological health and safety in healthcare in comparison to national norms, where available. These results will be shared with staff in a timely fashion by way of our internal communication processes.
