Clocks Go Ahead on March 8th for the Last Time

On Sunday, March 8th at 2am the clocks will go forward one hour. This marks the final time the clocks will change in the province of BC.

On March 2, David Eby, Premier of British Columbia, announced that the province will switch to daylight savings time permanently. The clocks will not fall back this coming November. The new time zone will be called Pacific Time.  You can read more about this change here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-adopting-year-round-daylight-time-9.7111657

Reminder for staff scheduled to work over the time change

The FBA agreement (Article 20.06), CBA agreement (Article 27.16) and HSPBA agreement (Article 24.10) contain language that is consistent with Article 26.06 of the NBA collective agreement:
“Employees shall be paid for actual hours worked when scheduled to work the nights of the standard/daylight savings time changes. It is understood that this pay will be straight time.”
For example, under these four agreements, during the switch from daylight savings time in the spring when clocks are put forward one hour, if an employee were to work 6.5 hours instead of 7.5 hours, they will be paid for 6.5 hours. During the return to standard time in the fall when the clocks are put back one hour, if an employee were to work 8.5 hours instead of 7.5 hours, they will be paid for 8.5 hours at straight time.
