Re: RETIREMENT – Gaby Delorme, W1 Menno Home Nursing Supervisor
Gaby Delorme, W1 Nursing Supervisor in Menno Home, has retired as of June 28, 2024.
We wish to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to an amazing nurse who has dedicated her nursing career to Menno Place and is now retiring after 26.5 years of working here.
Gaby began her career as a Health Care Assistant working from September 1997 to 2011. She obtained her License in Practical Nursing during this period, and worked as an LPN from 2011 to 2021 in Menno Home. Gaby then became the Nursing Supervisor for W1 and served in that position until her retirement in 2024.
Gaby excelled in her career and states she was “blessed to have been employed in a job I truly loved!” It was certainly easy to see, as she loved working with the residents and staff on W1 and put all her best efforts into her “family” of residents and staff here.
Gaby, we thank you for your long years of service and dedication to Menno Place! We wish you many new happy adventures as you enter this stage of your life! Job well done. We will all miss you!
As we gear up for the warmer months ahead, the Dining Experience team will be providing water and juice dispensers for all staff this summer. Staying hydrated is crucial, and we want to ensure that everyone has easy access to refreshing beverages throughout the day.
Location: The water and juice dispensers will be located in dining rooms, fridges, staff rooms and morning break rooms (In apartments).
Availability: They will be available starting 1st week of July and will remain accessible throughout the summer months July and August.
Variety: We’ll be offering a selection of juices to cater to different tastes and preferences. Feel free to suggest any specific flavors you’d like to see available.
Please remember to bring your own reusable cups or bottles to minimize waste and support our sustainability efforts. (Nursing staff please keep your cups and bottles behind the nursing station and break rooms ONLY).
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the water and juice dispensers, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jacob Doss, Dining Experience Manager.
Let’s stay cool, hydrated, and productive this summer!
This week, Menno Place Chaplain Kerry Dyck shared a short devotional on Psalm 62 and we prayed for the care staff in the Apartments & Wellness Centre and our Nurse Care Supervisor Geetanjali Padayachi.
After recovering from an injury, the author of the hymn “Sunshine in My Soul,” was overcome with joy. Returning home, she picked up her pen and immediately wrote this hymn. Find out more about this hymn and its author, Eliza E. Hewitt.

Pearl Nucich, “The Momma of Menno Place” as she was called retired yesterday with a fun-filled party attended by over 60 staff. The Dining Experience team provided Pearl with her favorite addiction to share – peanut butter cookies!
Speeches were given by Leanne Tanner, Rachel Setka, Robin Friesen, Linda Weatherly and Karen Biggs – and finally, a response by Pearl!

Re: Staff Wellness – New Process for Informing Menno Place of your absence
________________________________________________________________________
Staff Wellness and the Menno Place Attendance Management Support Program
As a dedicated employee of Menno Place, regardless in which building you work, your primary goal is to offer exceptional care to our residents. Offering care to residents or tenants should not compromise your self-care.
The leadership team at Menno Place is happy to provide information to promote your self-care. You will notice two documents have been placed on the staff website (www.MennoPlaceStaff.com/PeopleandCulture) one is titled “Promoting Healthy Attendance ”. This short booklet is packed with tips to help you eat healthy and sleep well as some of you manage shift work, family obligations, and taking care of yourself. We hope you find the information helpful and useful as you work toward achieving your wellness goals.
The second document is titled, “Question and Answer Sheet for Menno Place Employees on wellness and attendance ”. Please take a few minutes to review this document as it summarizes important information regarding wellness, attendance, break periods, and overtime.
One of the most noteworthy points in these documents includes a new process for informing Menno Place of your absence.
Any time you call in sick, effective immediately, you will call the staffing office and your manager to report your absence.
Your manager will speak with you to ensure any support that can be provided by Menno Place will be shared with you. In addition, the manager can make decisions that impact the operations of Menno Place in a timely manner. Please do not send an email or a text to your manager, please make the phone call.
Your health is important to us, and we have seen sick time increase as well as WCB claims. It is important that we all work together and help each other live our best possible. Stay tuned for more information on leading your best life throughout the year.
Loradonna Botter,
Executive Director, People & Culture
This week, Menno Place Chaplain Ann Thakkar read through Scripture and we prayed for the Menno Home East 1 team and our Resident Care Coordinator Annette Unrau.
