Temporary Pandemic Pay – Update – 10/09/2020

The Temporary Pandemic Pay supports eligible employees that delivered in-person, front-line care in health, social services and corrections during the 16 week period of March 15 to July 4, 2020.

The Province of British Columbia is coordinating with multiple ministry funders and hundreds of service providers to ensure the distribution of funds. (Sept. 16, 2020)

Menno Place is provided the Temporary Pandemic Pay through Fraser Health. The reporting for eligible employee work information is due to Fraser Health by October 31, 2020. Following this, Fraser Health will approve the report and the funds will be issued to Menno Place for distribution to employees through the regular payroll process.

Temporary Pandemic Pay funding will be based on the number of Fraser Health funded beds in each of our funded buildings – Menno Home, Menno Hospital and Terrace East Assisted Living. The hourly rate of Temporary Pandemic Pay will vary based on which building the eligible employee worked. Temporary Pandemic Pay is taxable and subject to payroll deductions.

Janet Bergen, Executive Director, Care Services is Retiring

We thank Janet Bergen for her leadership of the nursing team at Menno Home and Menno Hospital. Janet returned to Menno Place in 2018 as the Executive Director Care Services, retiring September 30, 2020. Janet previously served here side by side with many of you on the nursing team. Her primary focus  here was promoting Resident and Family Centered Care which was central to her calling. Thank you to Janet for your dedication and loyalty to both the residents and staff at Menno Place. Your heart for people, for God’s calling as a nurse and for your care of seniors did not go unnoticed. We thank you for your faithful service here at Menno Place and wish you joy in your new season of life.

Message from Janet Bergen:

To staff in all departments, the Board of Directors, the Leadership Team, the Executive Team, and contractors:

It has been my great privilege to work with such an exceptional team at Menno Place over the past few years. I am so grateful for my experiences as I have watched you grow and step up to the challenges providing quality care to all residents no matter what their background, language, or disposition.  As I have watched from afar over the past few months, I have been impressed with what you have achieved in these unparalleled times. The challenges will inevitably continue but you have endured, and I am in awe!

My greatest joy came from wandering halls and departments and learning to know your names, about your families, your joys and struggles and witnessing your deep commitment to your work. Service, sacrifice and building community is so essential to make a workplace a location where one wants to come back to and contribute in an ongoing way.

While I am saddened to leave this extraordinary place, I leave with the need to continue to provide care and support to my parents; the very things that you do so well! You have given me ideas and inspired me to do what I can to make their lives as comfortable and meaningful as possible.

I wish you all the best in the coming weeks and months as you move forward and assist Menno Place in sustaining a direction that exemplifies the Mission, Vision and Values that have stood the test of time.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve during my tenure as Executive Director, Care Services.

In gratitude,

Janet Bergen
