Volume 2023.02 The Importance of Your Employee ID Number

Volume 2023.02 The Importance of Your Employee ID Number

We are hiring!

As we grow in number of team members at Menno Place we are finding we are hiring staff with similar names at different sites.  This can cause confusion as to who we, in Human Resources, are working with when we get emails from team members.

To ensure the proper documentation, leave requests, and emails are going to the right person, please record your Employee ID Number after your name in any email or paper documents you send to Human Resources.  This will help expedite your request and ensure we apply your request to the right person.

Example:    Jeanette Lee #354

Thanks so much.

Volume 2022.27 Winter Weather Advisory

Volume 2022.27 Winter Weather Advisory

We wish to advise you of an upcoming shift in weather with risk of low-elevation snow for the Lower Mainland.

 Details:

  • Timespan: Sunday, November 27th to Saturday, Dec 3rd
  • Cold temperatures. Temperatures will be 5 to 20 degrees colder than normal and will begin to drop Sunday, with the coldest days expected late in the week
  • Gradual warming is expected to begin by next weekend (Dec 3-4, 2022)
  • Widespread snow possible throughout the week with forecasts of 5-20 cm of accumulation Tuesday/Wednesday

Potential impacts for consideration

  • Changing weather conditions may impact regular commutes and transportation corridors
  • Staff may be impacted in their travel to and from work sites
  • Blowing snow and accumulating snow on roads may make travel challenging
  • Power outages are possible from moderate to strong gusty winds, or infrastructure damage from ground instability
  • Menno Place may be directly impacted and will prepare for power failures

Potential actions to take

  • Arrange alternative transportation, such as car pooling, if uncomfortable with driving in these conditions.
  • Sign up for weather alerts through Alertable, WeatherCAN, and AlertMe
  • Make sure on-call leadership is aware and knows how to report any impacts
  • Maintenance is working hard to keep our campus clear of snow and ice.
  • Take precautions when walking/driving and wear proper footward.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Lee

Volume 2022.26 Leave of Absence (LOA) Submission Requirement

Volume 2022.26 Leave of Absence (LOA) Submission Requirement

Please be reminded that LOA requests are to be submitted a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the time off requested.  The request must go to the Manager for approval as per the Collective Agreement language.

The Facilities Collective Agreement, Article 34.01 states, “…Leave of Absence shall be made in writing to the department supervisor and may be granted at the Employer’s discretion. The employee shall give at least seven (7) day’s notice to minimize disruption of staff.”

The Association Agreement, Article 14.1 states, “A regular full-time employee may request an unpaid leave of absence (LOA) which must be submitted in writing seven (7) days prior to the requested time off.” A LOA is granted at the discretion of the Employer based on daily staffing levels.

Those team members who are denied the LOA request and fail to show up for their shift will be followed up with.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Lee
