Staff working across Menno Place campus & Expansion to include Fraser East Cluster

The Ministry of Health has announced that staff can work across different long-term care and assisted living sites within an expanded cluster. Menno Home, Hospital and Assisted Living are included in the Fraser East Cluster:

  • Can only be hired as a casual at the additional site;
  • You must let your manager and staffing know if you are activating casual employment at another site;
  • This is a temporary measure. Employers could propose restrictions or pre-cautions at any time as directed by the Ministry of Health in the case of an outbreak or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • We encourage all staff to get the booster vaccination to reduce the risk of spread between sites.

This does not alter the Single Site Transition Framework agreement and employees with combined FTEs will continue to work the additional FTE.

Proof of Vaccination Still Required for Visiting

As you may have heard, it was announced yesterday that as of Friday April 8th, the BC vaccine passport will no longer be required. Meaning that as of Friday anyone will be permitted to go to restaurants, movie theatres, indoor concert and sports venues, and anywhere else that the provincial vaccine card was previously required.

It is important to note however, that there have not been any changes announced for the requirements to visit in Long Term Care and Assisted Living.

As such, proof of vaccination will continue to be required in order to gain entry to visit residents and tenants at Menno Place.

If you are planning to visit a resident or tenant, please be prepared to show your proof of vaccination along with verifying identification to the screener upon arrival. If you do not have a vaccine passport, you may show your vaccine card or other documentation as proof.

Please also note that masking and rapid testing protocols remain unchanged at this time.

HEALTH CARE ACCESS PROGRAM (HCAP) – Back by Popular Demand

MEMO

Re:       HEALTH CARE ACCESS PROGRAM (HCAP) – back by popular demand

Menno Place is pleased to announce that we have again been approved for Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) full time positions fully funded by the Government of British Columbia’s Health Career Access Program (HCAP).  This program was developed in response to the urgent staffing needs across long-term care and assisted living sectors in BC.

The HCAP program works like a co-op – successful candidates work at the site and go to school for the HCA program at the same time.  This is a temporary position when, once completed, the person graduates with their HCA certification.

The HCAP education and training program takes approximately 12-18 months to complete.  It provides an opportunity for individuals to receive paid employer-sponsored training leading to the HCA credential.  The candidate must make a 12-month commitment to the employer to work as a HCA at the site once they have graduated from the program.  To enroll in the program and find out more go to:   https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/covid-19/economic-recovery/work-in-health-care#HCAP

Menno Place has received approval for 4 candidates for Menno Home, 3 candidates for Menno Hospital and 2 candidates for Menno Apartments – Assisted Living. Watch for these postings going up Tuesday March 22, 2022.
