Jesus Loves Me. Without doubt the hymn that has influenced children for Christ more than any other is this simply stated one, written in 1860 by Anna Bartlett Warner. This month’s hymn is a All Creatures of our God and King. This inspiring expression of praise found in nearly every hymnal was originally written in 1225 by one of the most interesting figures in all of church history. Giovanni Bernardone, who was better known as Saint Francis of Assisi, was a medieval monk who spent his lifetime as an itinerant evangelist, preaching and helping the poor people of Italy.

This month’s hymn is a Christmas classic from the 19th century. Written by Father Joseph Mohr and composed by Franz Gruber, the story of “Stille Nacht” features a broken down organ on Christmas Eve, a poem, and the lofty desire to write the perfect Christmas song!

The hymn, “Jesus Paid It All”, has ministered to and blessed countless numbers of people for more than a century. “A woman scribbles a poem on the flyleaf of her hymnal, an amateur church musician unknowingly creates a matching tune, an unknown pastor provides encouragement and another hymn is born.”

On Thursday, October 20 at 10:20am, Menno Place will be participating in the annual Great British Columbia ShakeOut.
This will be a 10 minute Code Orange Earthquake Drill.
A 2 min audio/video announcement will broadcast via the overhead PA system, desk speaker phones and live streamed on Ch59 (Home/Hospital MennoTV) and Ch10 (PG/TE/TW)
Instructions for Staff:
When you hear the Drill announcement (2min):
• Drop, Cover and Hold On where ever you are.
• Here’s a how-to video if there’s a desk or table nearby.
• Here’s a how-to video if there’s NO table or desk nearby.
After the drill (5min):
• Sign Attendance sheet at the nearest nurse station or with the Leadership Observers in your area.
Debrief
• Look around and think about what could fall or move in the event of an earthquake.
• What utilities/services could fail?
• What to do if you a caring for a resident?

Leadership Team will be assigned to various locations as Observers and document participation of staff. All documentation should be forwarded to David Janzen.

The deeply personal hymn, “I Need Thee Every Hour” was written out of the daily experiences of a busy housewife and mother, Annie Hawks, in the year 1872. “Suddenly, I became filled with the sense of nearness to the Master, and I began to wonder how anyone could ever live without Him, either in joy or pain. Then, the words were ushered into my mind and these thoughts took full possession of me – ‘I need Thee every hour’.”
